Age is a helpful starting point, not a rigid rule. This pathway gives parents a calm overview of how players grow from their first rallies to focused training.

Five Stages

Start where the player can succeed and enjoy the work.

Each stage keeps the same five questions in view: age, focus, readiness, frequency, and placement.

Typical age: 5-7

Red Ball

Skills learnedMovement, hand-eye coordination, basic strokes, and short-court rallies.

Ready to advanceCan rally cooperatively, start points, and move with growing control.

Recommended frequency1 class each week.

PlacementNo evaluation required.

Typical age: 8-10

Orange Ball

Skills learnedLonger rallies, serve foundations, scoring, and point play on a scaled court.

Ready to advanceCan sustain rallies, keep score, and begin constructing points.

Recommended frequency1-2 sessions each week.

PlacementNo evaluation required for beginners.

Typical age: 10-12

Green Ball

Skills learnedFull-court movement, consistency, serve-and-return habits, and simple tactics.

Ready to advanceCan rally with shape and direction, serve reliably, and play full points.

Recommended frequency1-2 sessions each week.

PlacementHelpful for experienced players, but not required.

Beginner Yellow

Skills learnedFull-court fundamentals, match confidence, scoring, and high-school-ready habits.

Ready to advanceCan sustain points, start play with a serve, and train with purpose.

High Performance

Skills learnedTechnical refinement, movement patterns, fitness, match play, and decision-making.

Ready to advanceAlready rallies consistently and wants a more demanding training environment.

Recommended frequency1-2 training days each week, with match play.
